Propuesta de formación docente para la cultura de paz en el marco de la Licenciatura en Lenguas Modernas de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana

2021
The peace agreement signed between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in 2016 represents the beginning of a period characterized by the dream of building a peace culture in Colombia. This research seeks to contribute to achieve this dream through a teacher education proposal which encourages social and pedagogical practices that promote such culture among pre-service teachers of modern languages. To do so, the theoretical basis, the teaching approaches, and the methodological route that would facilitate the development of a proposal that aims to cultivate human capabilities of respect, compassion and care within the framework of the bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages at the Pontifical Xavierian University are determined. The development of this study is divided in two phases: identifying the need and putting forward a proposal. In the first phase, the relevance of a proposal based on peace education and conflict resolution directed towards the bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages is determined through a research based on a mixed methodology. In the second phase, the research papers of Perez (2015, 2017), Sanchez Cardona (2015), Gkonou et al. (2021), and Olivero (2017), among others, as well as the guidelines of the Pontifical Xavierian University are used to formulate the theoretical elements, the teaching approaches, and the methodological route that would characterize the aforementioned proposal. The results of the research confirm the need for a proposal within the framework of the bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages, and highlight the role of language teachers and their responsibilities in building a peace culture in Colombia. In the same way, these offer an innovative contribution as they help to close the gap between the field of language teacher education and the field of peace education.
