Fieber nach Tropenaufenthalt ist ein potentiell lebensbedrohlicher Notfall und sollte sofort stationar abgeklart werden. Wichtigste Differentialdiagnose ist die Malaria. Goldstandard in der Diagnostik ist die Durchfuhrung eines „Dicken Tropfens” sowie eines Blutausstrichs. Veranderungen konnen jedoch auch schon in der Routinelabordiagnostik auftreten und Hinweise auf eine Malaria geben. Die Therapie erfolgt angepasst nach Erregerspezies, Reiseland und Schwere der Erkrankung. Wichtig zur Vermeidung von Erkrankungen nach Tropenaufenthalt ist eine reisemedizinische Beratung in einem Tropeninstitut oder bei einem Tropenmediziner vor Beginn der Reise.
