Perioperative complications in patients with sleep apnea following primary total shoulder arthroplasty: An analysis of 33,366 patients

Abstract Introduction The study evaluated whether sleep apnea (SA) patients undergoing total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) are at greater odds of: 1) medical complications; 2) implant-related complications; 3) readmission rates; and 4) costs. Methods Complications and readmissions were assessed using logistic regression analysis. Welch's t-test was used to compare CCI and cost between cohorts. Results 33,366 patients equally distributed in both cohorts. SA increased the odds of medical [Odds-ratio (OR)]: 2.52, p  Conclusion SA increases complications and costs following TSA.
