Direct registration of articulatory movements versus acoustic analysis for speech production modelling and the treatment of speech motor disorders

1987
We plead for the use of direct articulator position recordings in favor of acoustic analysis for determining articulator settings both for regular and pathologic speakers. The methods for direct measurements of articulator trajectories are reviewed, and examples are presented to show how inferences from the acoustic signal prove inadequate to yield articulator positions.
