Adsorptive characteristics of akaganeite and its environmental applications: a review
2012
Akaganeite has aroused widespread attention as a new type of adsorbent owing to its outstanding ability for the removal of various pollutants. Adsorptive characteristics and preparation methods of akaganeite and the use for contaminant removal have been investigated. Modification of the sorbent can also improve adsorption capacity. In this review, an extensive list of akaganeite literature has been compiled to provide a summary of available information on a wide range of sorbents such as granular ferric hydroxide (GFH), iron-loaded granular activated carbon and akaganeite composites. The future research trend on akaganeite-based sorbents in the removal of pollutants is also mentioned.
