Chapter 10:Xenon Porometry

2015
Xenon porometry is a novel method for the determination of mean pore size, pore size distribution and porosity of solid porous materials. It is based on 129Xe NMR spectroscopy and utilization of a medium which displays both liquid and solid phases. Xenon gas is dissolved in the liquid and the solution is introduced into the pores of porous materials. The 129Xe NMR spectra taken over wide temperature range contain information which can be used to determine pore size distribution functions and porosities. This chapter describes the method and gives examples of its performance.
