Liquid–Liquid Phase Equilibria for the Ternary Water + Acetic Acid + 3,3-Dimethyl-2-butanone System at (298.15, 313.15 and 323.15) K

2015
In this work, liquid–liquid phase equilibria (LLE) data for the ternary system, water + acetic acid + 3,3-dimethyl-2-butanone, were measured at (298.15, 313.15 and 323.15) K under atmospheric pressure. The Othmer–Tobias and Hand equations were used to verify the experimental tie-line data’s reliability. The distribution coefficients, together with the selectivity factors of acetic acid between aqueous and organic phase, were used to assess the extraction performance of 3,3-dimethyl-2-butanone. The nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) and universal quasichemical activity coefficient (UNIQUAC) models were used to correlate the experimental tie-line data and to yield binary interaction parameters for relevant process simulations.
