The mechanism of plasma shock flow control for enhancing flow sepa-ration control capability

2010
Since the induced flow velocity and flow separation control capability by dielectric barrier discharge plasma aerodynamic actuation are difficult to be raised remarkably, some new way must be adopted to improve the plasma aerodynamic actuation’s capability for flow separation control. This paper put forwards a new concept of “plasma-shock-based flow control”, including shock actuation, vortex control and frequency coupling. Through theoretical, experimental and simulational researches, the mechanism of plasma shock aerodynamic actuation and using such actuation to improve flow separation control capability are investigated. The effectiveness of “plasma-shock-based flow control” was validated at the freestream velocity of 100 m/s.
