Energy Storage Technology in Multiple Microgrids: A Survey

The development trend of the microgrid is hound to form multiple microgrids. Energy storage system plays an irreplaceable role in the construction of multiple microgrids to ensure the stable operation of multiple microgrids. However, there is still a lack of energy storage system research for multiple microgrids. Based on the operating characteristics of the multiple microgrids, this paper analyzes the functions of the energy storage system in frequency modulation and peak regulation in the multiple microgrids and introduces several forms of energy storage that have application prospects in the multiple microgrids. Finally, some key technologies for energy storage system applications in multiple microgrids are pointed out, including scheduling monitoring, planning schemes, droop control of converters and virtual synchronous generator.
