Evaluate the value of tissue Doppler Tei index for global function of left ventricle in patients with hypertension

2009
Objectives To evaluate the value of Tei index measured for estimating global function of left ventricle assessed by tissue Doppler in patients with hypertension. Methods Left ventricular mass indexes (LVMI) of the 65 patients with hypertension and 40 healthy subjects were measured by echocardiography. In tissue Doppler mode, dynamic spectrum of mitral valve annulus were recorded in apical four-chamber view, and tissue Doppler image-Tei indexes were calculated. Results Thirty-four of 65 patients with LVMI fitted to left ventricle hypertrophy diagnostic criteria were in left ventricular hypertrophy group and 31 of 65 patients were in non-left ventricular hypertrophy group. LVMI of left ventricular hypertrophy group was higher than that of non-left ventricular hypertrophy group and that of control group [( 159.52 ±32.71) g / m2 vs. ( 103.52 ±15.41) g / m2, P 0.05; ( 159.52 ±32.71) g / m2 vs. (101.25±16.74) g / m2, P0.05]. Both tissue Doppler image Tei index of left ventricular hypertrophy group and non-left ventricular hypertrophy group were significantly higher than that of the control group (0.67±0.15 vs. 0.36±0.19, P 0.05; 0.58±0.22 vs. 0.36±0.19, P0.05). Tei index of left ventricular hypertrophy group was higher than that of non-left ventricular hypertrophy group (0.67±0.15 vs. 0.58±0.22, P0.05). Conclusions Tissue Doppler image-Tei index is a simple and usefu1 index in evaluating left ventricular global function in patients with hypertension.
