RENAL BIOPSY TEACHING CASE The Kidney in Plasma Cell Dyscrasias: Bence-Jones Cast Nephropathy and Light Chain Deposit Disease

1998
RENAL BIOPSY was performed for the evaluation of heavy proteinuria and renal insufficiency in a 57-year-old man with a severalmonth history of low back pain. He was also anemic. Although the clinical diagnosis seems quite obvious, it required comprehensive assessment of the biopsy to detect the spectrum of renal damage present. This case illustrates both types of lesions that can occur in this clinical setting and the manners of diagnosing them.
