Numerical Simulation of the Hydrodynamic Performance of an Oar Blade of Canoe

2011
This In present report, the flow around an oar blade of Canoe which was used in sports competition in full scale was simulated using Fluent, commercial software, for the computation of fluid dynamics (CFD). The numerical results of total drag values in difference a span of angles of attack in flume were obtained. The results of drag obtained from Fluent were compared with the results acquried from experiments. The validities of the six turbulence models in Fluent were carried out to predict the three-dimensional viscous flows and the hydrodynamic performance of a blade of canoe, and the Spalart - Allmaras (S-A) model, SST k - ω (sstkw) mode, standard k - e (ske) model and realization k - e (rke) model, which were found, were better model using to model the flow of a blade of canoe during the stroke. Therefore, these turbulent models will be used to the model to optimal the shape design of the blade, and be very useful in the research of the hydrodynamic performance of interference of multi-oars.
