Measurement of Takeoff and Landing Ground Roll of Airplane on Grassy Runway

2019
The paper is devoted to measurements of take-off and landing ground roll distance of a General Aviation airplane on grassy airfield. The study is a part of the GARFIELD project that is expected to deliver an online information system on grassy airfields conditions. A four-seat STOL airplane PZL 104 Wilga was flown on a grassy runway of Radawiec aerodrome, southeast Poland. In the experiment, ground speed and ground roll distances of take-off and landing were determined with the use of two methods: (1) a DGPS system and (2) a non-contact optical sensor CORREVIT L400, which enabled to determine ground velocity of the airplane. The experimental results were compared against calculations of the ground roll preformed with the use of three different models.
