Symmetry relationships for the four energy levels and the angular property of the EPR spectra for a spin-32 system

1988
Abstract Energy levels and the EPR spectra for an S = 3 2 system have been studied both from an analytical and from a computational point of view. Symmetry relationships between the energy levels are explored analytically. A unique symmetry has been discovered for λ = 1 3 (λ = E D , the ratio of the two fine structure parameters) which relates to recent experimental results pursued by the authors. Characteristic parameters which determine the occurrence of different types of spectra, or which govern their general angular behavior, have all been investigated either analytically, whenever possible, or computationally as a function of λ. An overall picture of the EPR spectrum for all values of λ and for any relative size of the Zeeman and zero-field interactions has been obtained. Finally, methods for estimating the fine structure parameters D and E are outlined.
