A Hybrid Massive MIMO Jammer for TDD Point-to-Point Link

2018
In this paper, we propose a hybrid massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) jammer for time-division duplex (TDD) point-to-point link. The hybrid jammer can switch between the virtual full-duplex (VFD) jamming mode and halfduplex (HD) jamming mode depending on the threshold of loop-interference. In the VFD jamming mode, the antenna array alternates signal reception and interference signal transmission for the same user, so that channel reciprocity can be fully utilized and better jamming performance can be obtained when the loop-interference level is low. The HD jamming mode only interferes with one side of the legal link, so the jamming signal can be generated by using the reciprocity of the channel. When the self-interference level is low, the jamming performance of HD mode is worse than that of the VFD mode. When the self-interference level is high, the interference performance of the virtual full-duplex interference mode is seriously deteriorated, and the hybrid jammer switch to the HD mode can obtain better interference performance. The simulation results show that the proposed hybrid jamming mode can switch to VFD mode at low loop interference level to obtain more efficient jamming performance, and switch to HD interference mode at high loop interference level to obtain more robust jamming performance.
