Periodic issues of 1917-1945 in the fund of V. O. Sukhomlinsky State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine as a source of modern historiographic researches

The article provides an overview of periodicals of 1917-1945 from the fund of V. O. Sukhomlynskyi SSPL of Ukraine, which are the source of historical research in the field of pedagogy, education, library science, since this information resource largely reflects the development of pedagogical thought, its features, problems and the like. The study revealed the specific and thematic focus of the journals, reflecting the development trends of education, science and culture of Ukraine in difficult historical periods. The periodicals which are little known to the scientists have been analysed, in particular, “Novym shlyakhom (Following a New Way)” (Krasnodar), dedicated to Ukrainization of Kuban’. The publications of the journals of that time contributed to the formation of the worldview and axiological attitudes among the practicing educators of that time, contained information about the important problems of the educational process at school that were characteristic feature of the chronological period under study, and the ways to solve them, through the journal articles there was a multi-aspect professional communication of teachers, exchange of experience between active teachers with a creative approach to their professional activities. The pages of the journals reveal the theoretical and methodological foundations of the reform and modernization of education in Ukraine and the historical and cultural processes of that period. According to the results of the study, library specialists are preparing to publish the catalogue “The Periodicals of 1917-1945 in the Fund of V. O. Sukhomlynskyi State Scientific and Pedagogical Library of Ukraine”, which will serve as a source base for scientists and practitioners and will contribute to the professional provision of research not only for psychological and pedagogical issues, but also for bibliology, library science, journalism, cultural studies.
