ME/MOEP in treatment of refractory leukemia in 104 cases

Objective To evaluate the effects and toxicities of a regimen of therapy using mitoxantrone(MIT) combined with etoposide(VP-16) for 104 patients with refractory acute leukemia.Methods The patients with AML were treated with MIT 10 mg/m2 for 3 d,VP-16 100 mg/m2 for 3-5 d;the patients with ALL were treated with MIT 10 mg/m2 for 3 d,VP-16 100 mg/m2 for 3-5 d,VCR 2mg/m2 for 1 d,Pred 60-80 mg/m2 for 7 d.The regiments were repeated every 4 weeks and every patients got 2-3 cycles treatment.Results After one period treatment using the ME/MOEP regimen,the total effective rate respectively was 84.6%(CR 53.8%,PR 30.8%)in leukemic patients.The chief adverse side effect of ME/MOEP was severe and sustaining bone marrow suppression.The counts of the leukocyte and thrombotocyte respectively fell to the lowest after 4-9 d and 5-14 d treatment.It took 11-15 d for recovery.The other adverse side effects were not obvious and no patients died or stopped the treatment because of the adverse side effects.Conclusion ME/MOEP regimen can achieve the perfect results for the patients with refractory actuelenkemia.
