Excess molar enthalpies of some pairs of model monomers of polystyrene and of polyacrylic esters

1988
Abstract The excess molar enthalpies for the six mixtures formed from two of the four model monomers: ethylbenzene, 2-(methoxycarbonyl)propane, 2-(ethoxycarbonyl)propane, and n -butylpropanoate have been measured at 298.2 K. The polymers corresponding to those monomers are polystyrene, poly-2-(methoxycarbonyl)propene, poly-2-(ethoxycarbonyl)propene, and poly- n -butoxycarbonylethene, respectively. The excess molar enthalpies of pairs of model monomers have been determined in an attempt to predict the relative compatibilities of the polymers when pairs of the polymers are used to form interpenetrating polymer networks. The morphology of this type of polymer blend depends critically on the compatibility of the two interpenetrating polymer networks.
