Phase equilibria in the Zn-rich corner of the Zn-Cu-Ti system

High temperature phase equilibria of the ternary system Zn-Cu-Ti were investigated with compositions of some 15 alloys chosen in the Zn-rich corner. Transformation temperatures were determined by differential thermal analysis experiments, and phase characterization was performed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, electron microprobe analysis, and for selected alloys transmission electron microscopy investigation. A ternary B phase, just mentioned previously, is well characterized. A liquidus projection in the Zn-rich corner and a new isothermal section for 400°C are proposed in which the B phase is taken into account. Composition, nature and temperature of invariant reactions were determined.
