2018
PECSA Dr. Baljit Cheema Dr. Katya Evans Dr. Willem Stassen Abstract: This 2-hour interactive workshop will provide mini-updates on three critical topics: paediatric & neonatal CPR, circulatory shock management in children and status epilepticus acute management. The updates will be followed by practical stations. There is an intra-osseous skills station, to refresh knowledge on the different techniques with an opportunity to practice the skill. There will also be two case simulation stations (shock & seizures) where participants will get the chance to put into practice the learning from the update lectures. The workshop coordinator is Dr. Baljit Cheema (Paediatric Emergency Specialist, Emergency Medicine UCT & EMS WC Health). We have fantastic faculty consisting of senior paediatric and emergency colleagues: Dr. Heloise Buys (Head Medical Emergency Unit, Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital), Dr. Andrew Redfern (Lead Clinician G-Ground Children’s Emergency Ward at Tygerberg Hospital), Dr. Katya Evans (Emergency Medicine Specialist, Mitchells Plain Hospital) and Dr Willem Stassen (PhD Coordinator, Division of Emergency Medicine, UCT). The faculty are running this workshop on behalf of the Paediatric Emergency Care South Africa (PECSA) sub-group of Emergency Medicine Society of South Africa (EMSSA) https://emssa.org.za/paediatric-emergency-care-south-africa/ Maximum 16 participants
