Modeling ofthePorenetwork byImageProcessing: Application totheNonwovenMaterial

2006
Theknowledge ofstructural parameters ofnonwovensmediaispoorlyunderstood. The PoresSizeDistribution (PSD)function isoneof thoseparameters. Thedifficulty isnotonlythe understanding ofthedistribution ofporesbutalso theidentification ofthepores geometry distribution (PGD)andoftheir dynamic properties. Inthispaper, wepresent anefficient andreliable methodbasedonimageanalysis whichontheone hand, performs theestimation ofthePSDfunction andtakesintoaccountthegeometric aspect of pores, and on theotherhand, analyses fluid transport innonwovenmadefrompolyester. We set up a testbedinordertoobserve thedynamic properties ofoursamples. We extract frames directly fromthis test bed. Inthis paper, wepresent results obtained fromtwo samples. Results showPSD containing a large variety ofpores. We alsodetermine thePGD which informs usabouttheshapeofpores. The resulting PSD areusedasa reference to determine thePSD offilled poresversustime. Results showthatthefluid transport inthepore networkisdefined bythreeessential parameters: geometric parameter (size, shape), thecapillary pressure andtheconnection inthepores network.
