Access, equality and inclusion of disabled students within south african further and higher educational institutions

2018
This chapter presents the current state of inclusion within higher and further education institutions in South Africa. The focus is on equity and inclusion, including access and reasonable accommodation. This chapter is informed by the current realities for students with disabilities, giving voice to their lived experiences related to the academic mandate in South Africa. While some progress has been made in mainstreaming disability, we argue that a consolidated framework needs to be implemented in the sector in order to ensure and regulate access, equality and full inclusion for all students with disabilities in South Africa.
