Magnetization reversal in antiferromagnetically coupled magnetic layers

2002
On the basis of a micromagnetic model, magnetization reversal in antiferromagnetically coupled (AFC) binary and ternary layers has been represented by computer simulation. Optimization of media parameters of the AFC layers has been done, especially for the effect of parameters, such as anisotropy and coupling magnitude, on the reversal. The results specify that easy axis dispersion rather than random anisotropy and a reasonably small anisotropy magnitude of the recording layer are required for obtaining large coercivity, small saturation field, and thermal stability in the AFC layers. The difference between the AFC binary and ternary structures is discussed briefly.
