Neutrino absorption efficiency of an 40 Ar detector from the β decay of 40 Ti

1998
We studied {beta}-delayed proton and {gamma} emission from {sup 40}Ti decay. We found t{sub 1/2}=52.7{plus_minus}1.5 ms and observed 28 proton groups that we organized into a {sup 40}Ti decay scheme with 21 branches. The reduced transition strengths of these decay branches were then used to compute the neutrino detection efficiency of the ICARUS liquid argon time-projection chamber. We found {sup 40}Ar({nu},e) cross sections (for an electron energy threshold W=5 MeV) of (14.0{plus_minus}0.3){times}10{sup {minus}43} cm{sup 2}, (75.1{plus_minus}1.8){times}10{sup {minus}43} cm{sup 2}, and (3.2{plus_minus}0.1){times}10{sup {minus}41} cm{sup 2} for {sup 8}B neutrinos, hep neutrinos, and supernova neutrinos characterized by a temperature of 4.5 MeV. {copyright} {ital 1998} {ital The American Physical Society}
