Significant Factors Affecting Contraktor and Consultant Companies’ Competitiveness Facing the Global Market Based on the Analytical Hierarchy Process

The objective of this paper is to identify to what extend the capability of contractor and consultant companies in Riau Province to compete in the global market. Statistical analyses methods were utilized to test the correlation among the internal factors of these companies. Test results showed that 14 internal factors influence and correlate each others for the case of the contractor companies, and 15 factors for the consultant ones. The hierarchy correlations for each single internal factors (either at the level of criteria or sub-criteria) were analyzed using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and an expert choice application packet. The existing contractor companies in these paper was considered “not ready” to face globalization with readiness level was <50% (e.i. 42%), and this situation was similar to those consultant ones (41.4%). Hence, it is concluded that the existing construction companies in Riau was not ready to compete in the global market. It is recommended to make necessary effort to (i) improve the companies’ financial performance, (ii) develop human resources, and (iii) up-dating companies’ technology as well as equipment.
