Letter to the CCP Central Organization Department, December 27, 1979

Comrade Chen Yun and the Central Discipline Inspection Commission, and Comrade Song Renqiong1 and the Central Organization Department: I have heard that the question of Comrade Sha Wenhan's rehabilitation (in 1957 he was labeled a rightist) has still not been solved. I am amazed. I write you this report not because I am an old subordinate and acquaintance of Comrade Sha Wenhan.2 It is not a question of the person but how to appraise his speech to the provincial party congress in 1956—it was because of this speech that comrade Sha Wenhan was labeled a rightist—and this is closely related to two important ideological and political questions confronting our party today.
