Scattering and transfer reactions of /sup 12/C with /sup 12/C

1981
The angular distributions of elastic and inelastic scattering (excitation of 4.43-MeV 2/sup +/ state) from 20/sup 0/ to 90/sup 0/ in the center-of-mass system of the /sup 12/C+/sup 12/C system have been obtained at bombarding energies of 72.5, 60, and 49 MeV. Oscillations were observed both in the elastic and inelastic angular distributions. The experiment was performed on the 1.5-m conventional cyclotron at the Institute of Modern Physics. The experimental results were fitted by optical-model calculations with use of the Woods-Saxon potential. The ambiguity of the optical-model parameters was discussed. At the bombarding energy of 72.5 MeV, three sets of parameters were obtained to give a similar fit and the intersection distance was found to be 6.67 fm. But only one of them could give a reasonable fit of the inelastic-scattering angular distribution in distorted-wave Born-approximation (DWBA) calculations. Angular distribution of one-neutron and one-proton transfer reactions of /sup 12/C on /sup 12/C have been measured by stacking-foil--collector method. From the ..beta../sup +/ activities of /sup 13/N and /sup 11/C in different foils at different angles, the energy spectra and angular distributions of these reaction products could be obtained. The experimental angular distribution of one-neutron transfer reaction was fitted by themore » modified zero-range--approximation DWBA calculation, with use of the same set of optical-model parameters which was used in the DWBA calculation of inelastic--scattering angular distribution.« less
