Epidemiology of Central Disorders of Hypersomnolence

2016
This article is on the epidemiology of four central disorders of hypersomnolence, narcolepsy type 1, narcolepsy type 2, idiopathic hypersomnia and Kleine-Levin syndrome, which are not due to insufficient sleep time, to a medical disorder, to a medication or substance and not associated with a psychiatric disorder. For each condition the diagnostic criteria recommended by ICSD-3, the distribution of the disease in the population, the genetic and environmental factors, the familial patterns and the measures that may help in its prevention are considered.
