Lactobacillus-acidophilus pn-ri-2-4, lactic acid bacterial formulation using the same and its production

1992
PURPOSE:To obtain the subject formulation useful for preventing, treating diarrhea, etc., promoting the growth, maintaining the health, etc., by culturing Lactobacillus.acidophiluses in a culture medium containing fermentable saccharides as a main carbon source under culture conditions suitable for a facultative anaerobic microorganism and then separating the microbial cell. CONSTITUTION:Lactobacillus.acidophilus PN-RI-2-4 (FERM P-12387) is inoculated into a culture medium containing fermentable saccharides (e.g. glucose) as a main carbon source, cultured under conditions suitable for a facultative fermentable anaerobic microorganism and proliferated and the resultant culture solution is then filtered through a precise filter equipped with an organic membrane having 0.1mum pore diameter and concentrated. A washing liquid is then added to the concentrate and the obtained mixture is filtered and concentrated. The operation is repeated several times to purify the concentrate. Skim milk, sodium glutamate, L-ascorbic acid and L-cysteine are added to the washed microbial cell concentrate and dissolved therein. The pH is regulated to 7 and the concentrate is freeze-dried to afford the objective lactic acid bacterial formulation useful for preventing, treating diarrhea, etc., promoting the growth and maintaining the health.
