Characterization of HIV Antibody Indeterminate Status and Impact Factors on HIV Tests

2010
OBJECTIVE To clarify the frequency and value of HIV antibody indeterminate status and,to study the impact factors.METHODS A total of 286,516 HIV antibody samples collected from clinical patients, police recruits, drug users and persons with abnormality in biochemistry or immunology were tested and retrospectively analyzed.RESULTS The HIV indeterminate status varied significantly among different populations,(P0.05): for clinical patients, police recruits, drug users and abnormal persons, the rate of HIV antibody-indeterminate status was 0.027%,0.009%,0.0% and 0.1%;and it correlated with patients 11 kinds of diseases, such as the liver transplantation, fracture and skin diseases, and with abnormal biochemistry,or immunology persons.CONCLUSION The HIV indeterminate status is significantly different in different populations. The incidence of non-differential reaction and indeterminate status in high-risk groups are the lowest, the caused factors of diseases are correlated with the indeterminate status.
