FAMILY THERAPY IN SCHIZOPHRENIA (FOCUSED ON PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL MODEL)

Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder characterized by variouspsychopathology which happened chronically. Antipsychotic medications have been widely accepted until now, but psychosocial interventions has proven significantly effective, moreover when combined. Family of schizophrenia are greatly affected by its chronicity, because it will change almost every part of the family, including role and interaction between family member. Psychosocial interventions rise from the theory that family actively induced schizophrenia.Family therapy helped by decreasing relapse, rehospitalization, and improving the patients’s adherence to treatment. Psychoeducational model of family therapy is the most suitable in Asia due to its benefits such as multifamily, simplicity, show interest to many aspect of schizophrenia, and could be done simultaneously therefore cost less.
