Surgical treatment of congenital buried penis in children using the sugita procedure

Objective To evaluate the results of Sugita procedure in the treatment of congenital buried penis in children.Methods From January 2008 to December 2010,78 consecutive patients with buried penis were treated using Sugita technique.The clinical data,including short-term outcomes,voiding function,scar formation,survey from the patients and parents about the surgical results,were reviewed.Results The wounds were exposed on day 4 or 5 after the operation,and at the same time,the urethral stents were removed.The patients were followed up from 6 weeks to 3 years.No patient had voiding problems.Eight cases with inner prepuce edema had good recovery within 6-12 weeks after operations.74 patients were satisfied with the eventual appearance,but 4 patients thought their penis were short.Conclusions The Sugita procedure is a good and simple method for the treatment of buried penis in children with few complications and satisfactory cosmetic results.
