An Acculturation Scale for Mexican-American Children

1983
Summary A description of an acculturation scale for Mexican-American children is presented. The instrument, to be completed by someone who knows the child well “e.g., teacher, counselor” is a 10-item Likert-type scale which requires the rater to respond on a one-to-five scale. Data are presented that support the reliability and validity of the scale. Factor analysis results are in agreement with the hypothesis that variables such as peer associations, ethnic identification, and language preference, usage, and proficiency are involved in measuring acculturation levels.
