Estimation of Aerial Density of the Lesser Grain Borer (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) in a Warehouse Using Dominica lure Traps

1986
Aerial density of lesser grain borers, Rhyzopertha dominica (F.), flying in a warehouse was recorded hourly using a Johnson-Taylor suction trap. Lindgren funnel traps baited with Dominica lure accurately estimated this aerial density and also accurately reflected R. dominica flight periodicity; therefore, this type of trap is an economical alternative to the suction trap for use in monitoring R. dominica infestations. This crepuscular species had a small peak of flight activity around sunrise and a very large one at sunset. At night, flight was minimal under normal conditions but increased when warehouse lights were on.
