GO-43 : The prognostic significance of steroid sulfatase in patients with endometrial cancer

2014
목적: The aims of this study was to confirm the expression of steroid sulfatase (STS) in human endometrial cancer tissue and to determine the correlation of prognosis in patients with or without expression of steroid sulfates and the feasibility of clinical implication of STS inhibitors in patients with endometrial cancer. 방법: We conducted a retrospective study in 59 patients who underwent surgery and histologically confirmed the endometrial cancer from January 2000 to December 2011 at Hanyang Uiversity Hospital. Immuno-histochemical staining of STS was performed using rabbit polyclonal anti-steroid sulfatase antibody. 결과: Out of a 59 patients, 16 patients (27.1%) had an expression of STS. Disease free survival (DFS) was 129.83±8.67 (95% CI: 112.84-146.82) months in STS positive group (Group A) and 111.06±7.17 (95% CI: 97.01-125.10) months in STS negative group (Group B) (p=0.92). Overall survival (OS) was 129.01±9.38 (95% CI: 110.63-147.38) months and 111.16±7.10 (95% CI: 97.24-125.07) months for the group A and B, respectively (p=0.45). Univariate analysis revealed that stage and adjuvant treatment were significantly associated with DFS and OS. In multivariate analysis, however, no statistical significance was identified in stage, histologic grade, adjuvant treatment and STS with DFS and OS. 결론: Although STS was expressed in 27% of patients with endometrial cancer, the expression of STS was not significantly associated with DFS and OS. Therefore, the clinical implication of STS inhibitors in patients with endometrial cancer should be approached carefully on the basis of the results of further relevant research.
