Chapter 9 – Human Factors

2018
Apart from technological issues, human factors should also be taken into account in the intelligent vehicles even when high levels of automation are reached. In this sense, this chapter deals with two specific areas related to the human driver. The first one considers the driver monitoring in order to know whether his conditions are good enough to perform the driving tasks. In the second section, the human–machine interface is explained because this interaction is essential for the effectiveness of new systems and to not disturb the main task of the driver.
