Studies on three cases of Angiostrongyiasis cantonensis infection through the contact with frogs.
2010
Objective To investigate the epidemic characteristics of Angiostrongyiasis cantonensis infection through the contact with frogs. Methods Three cases of Angiostrongyiasis cantonensis infection caused by contacting with frogs were selected from the 42 cases with serological positive reaction to A.cantonensis IgG antibodies.Diagnosis was performed in the parasitology clinics,Shenzhen Center of Diseases Control(CDC) from 2006 to 2010.The epidemic data, clinical manifestations, eosinophils concentration in blood,CT and MRI scanning of the infected sites and serological data were analyzed. Results All the three patients were from Guangdong provinces. The infection was correlated with the consumption of raw frog meat or covering the wound with raw hop toad meat. The clinical manifestations of these three cases were fever and headache. All of them showed CAg positive. One of the patients showed positive IgM at 10 days after consumption of the raw frog meat.Further serological analysis indicated that the patient was sero-negative to the antigens of Clonorchis sinensis,Paragonimus westernami, hydatid, bladder worm,Toxoplasma and Sparganum..Conclusions Contacting with frogs can cause Angiostrongyiasis cantonensis infection.Typical clinical symptom and serological characteristics are found after the infection.
