A framework for developing smart device design guidelines with consideration of UX of the disabled

2016
The purpose of this study is to suggest a frame work for developing smart device design guidelines with consideration of user experience (UX) of the disabled. With the large amount of the disabled, it became a major issue to develop IT device with consideration of the disabled. There are some guidelines to improve accessibility of web pages or mobile devices. However, improving accessibility just enables the disabled to use the products or services, and it doesn’t consider another UX perspectives like efficiency or affect. In this study, we developed a systematic framework to generate smart device design guidelines, which are based on UX of the disabled. First of all, to derive guidelines based on the morphological analysis, we defined three factors: disability, smart device design property, and UX principle. Guidelines can be extracted by two steps: step 1. Development of problem situations and step 2. Derivation of solution to solve the problem. Evaluation of the guidelines and iteration of the steps can help to make the guidelines more comprehensive and effective. The result of this study can also be used for developing guidelines of the other devices like wearable devices or home appliances.
