The Mathematical Catch Model of Pots for Yellow Sea Bream

1998
Pot fishing is an efficient method for catching demersal species at coast and offshore off Taiwan. To analyze the catch mechanism of pot equipment for yellow sea bream, this research was conducted at the northern offshore waters off Taiwan. Eight designed soaking times for pots (15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 120 and 300 minutes) were used in this study. Based on the actual data for soaking time and catch, three catch models were built. The parameters of the three catch models were estimated by using the Monte Carlo simulation method and their fitness were examined by using mean square error (MSE). The results show that escapement rate is proportional to soaking time and catch. The optimum soaking time for pot fishing is 45 minutes.
