Vegetative rescue of Paratecoma peroba adult trees: Adventitious rooting of epicormic sprouts from detached branches
2021
Abstract Cloning Paratecoma peroba mature trees from sprouts of detached older branches could be a step forward to conserve the species and select superior genotypes without using invasive methods in adult trees since the species is listed as highly endangered. We selected five mother trees and sprouts from detached branches were carried to a greenhouse under intermittent nebulization. One out of the five mother trees showed a 67 % survival percentage and rooted sprouts. The technique seems to be feasible for P. peroba clonal seedling production, but further investigations are needed as genetic factors appear to be the main drivers of adventitious rooting capability.
