Seroprevalence of HIV infection among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis in Yaounde-Cameroun.

1995
Tuberculosis (TB) is recognized worldwide as a major infectious complication in patients affected by HIV infection. The authors present their findings from a preliminary study undertaken to establish the seroprevalence of HIV infection among patients with pulmonary TB in Yaounde and to examine the impact of HIV infection upon the clinical presentation of the disease. An HIV serosurvey was conducted among 162 patients aged 14-73 years consecutively admitted to the Chest Unit of Hopital Jamot during February-May 1991 with pulmonary TB. Serodiagnosis found 9.9% to be infected with HIV a far greater proportion than the 2.2% infected overall in Yaounde. No differences were observed in the clinical radiological and bacteriological features between HIV seropositive and seronegative patients with pulmonary TB.
