Barotropic, subtidal exchange between Calcasieu Lake and the Gulf of Mexico

1990
Long-term measurements of flow through Calcasieu Pass, Louisiana, are compared to water level variations within Calcasieu Lake, Louisiana. Except during periods of freshets driven by local rainfall, the exchange is shown to be predominantly barotropic. A simple wind-driven model accounts for the observed phase relations between wind, current, and water level.
