Study of Lianhua Qingwen capsule against Staphylococcus aureus biofilm formation

Objective: To observe the inhibition of Lianhuaqingwen capsule( LHQW) on Staphylococcus aureus biofilm( S. a BF) formation. Methods: Microdilution assay minimum bactericidal concentration( MBC) of LHQW,crystal violet( CV) and microbial activity( WST) assay evaluating the inhibition of LHQW on S. a BF formation; scanning electron microscopy( SEM) and laser scanning confocal microscopy( CLSM) for observing S. a BF morphology and thickness measurement,were applicated. Results: MIC of LHQW against free S. a were 20mg / ml. LHQW inhibite S. a BF formation and reduce number of viable cells in the S. a BF; Compared with control group,LHQW significantly reduced the thickness of S. a BF( P < 0. 01). Conclusion: LHQW Inhibit the formation of S. a BF,evaluation system of the Institute could be applicated for the antibacterial effect of traditional Chinese medicine.
