Gelastic Epilepsy and True Precocious Puberty due to Hypothalamic Hamartoma

SUMMARY A new case of gelastic epilepsy and precocious puberty due to hypothalamic hamartoma is reported. After long-term medical treatment there was no observable neurological or endocrinological improvement and the clinical outcome was poor. The authors consider that early surgery for hamartoma should be reconsidered. Aucune amelioration neurologique ou endocrinienne n'a ete observee apres un traitement medical au long cours et le devenir clinique a ete sombre. Les auteurs considerent que le traitement precoce pour un hemartome doit etre rediscute. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Epileptische Lachanfalle und Pubertas praecox bedingt durch ein hyporhalamisches Ifamartom Es wird uber einen neuen Fall mit epileptischen Lachanfallen und Pubertas praecox bedingt durch ein hypothalamisches Hamartom berichtet. Nach langfristiger medizinischer Behandlung fand sich keine nachweisbare neurologische oder endokrinologische Besserung und das klinische Endergebnis war schlecht. Die Autoren vertreten die Ansicht. Das fruhzeitig eine Operations des Hamartoms wieder in Betracht gezogen werden sollte. Despues de un largo tiempo de tratamiento medico no habia ningun signo de mejoria neurologica o endocrinologica y el curso clinico era pobre. Los autores consideran que deberia reconsiderarse la cirugia precoz para el hamartoma.
