The effect of HBO on hemorrhagic transformation in rats with cerebral infarction embolized by autologous blood clot

Objective To study the effect of HBO on hemorrhagic transformation (HT) in rats with cerebral infarction embolized by autologous blood clot. Methods The middle cerebral artery ( MCA) embolism model was established in Sprague-Dawley ( SD) rats by single autologous blood clot. Thirty-six rats with embolic stroke were divided into 3 groups randomly: the operation control group, the normoxic hyperbaric nitrogen group, and the hyperbaric oxygen group. The effect of HBO on the rate of HT was examined. Results The rate of HT in the three groups were 33. 3% , 25. 0% and 33. 3% , respectively. There was no significant difference among the groups (P0. 05). Conclusions HBO had no obvious effect on HT in rats with cerebral infarction embolized by autologous blood clot.
