Effects of Migu decoction on the callus and fracture of ovariectomized rats
2008
Objective To establish animal models of primary osteoporosis and fracture animal models and observe the effects of Migu decoction on the callus of ovariectomized (OVX) rats. Methods Ninety Wistar female rats were randomly divided into 3 groups:the sham-ovariectomized (sham) ,the OVX and the Migu decoction (MGD) groups. The rats in OVX and the MGD groups were ovariectomized. The rats in all groups were artificially fractured on the upper part of the right femur. The rats in MGD group OVX groups were administrated with the same volume of normal sodium (NS) once daily by stomach ga-rage. The treatment duction was 2,4 and 8 weeks respectively. The expression of transforming growth fac-tor- β1 (TGF-β1) in fracture ends was detected by SABC immunohistochemistry staining. Results The positive expression rate of TGF-β1 in MGD group was high in the fracture ends. The expression of TGF-β1 was increased with the prolongation of time. On the 4th and 6th week, the expression of TGF-β1 was signif-icantly higher than in OVX and sham groups. Conclusion MG decoction can promote the healing of oste-oporosis-induced fracture to some extent.
