Organofluorine compounds effectively improve the safety of lithium ion batteries. Fluorine compound-mixed electrolyte solutions show a high thermal and electrochemical oxidation stability. They also contribute to the formation of a surface film on graphite electrodes, giving high coulombic efficiencies at the first cycle in propylene carbonate-containing solutions.
