Numerical Simulation of Penetration by Spherical and Hexahedral Shape Prefabricated Fragment

The same warhead space,the same mass of prefabricated fragments,hexahedral-shaped prefabricated fragments filling quantity is more than spherical-shaped one.If the hexahedral-shaped prefabricated fragments can still meet the requirements of penetration,then it means that the hexahedral-shaped prefabricated fragments than spherical-shaped prefabricated fragments can increase the warhead power.In order to demonstrate the feasibility of warhead filled with hexahedral-shaped fragments,save test costs,shorten the development cycle,using ANSYS/LS-DYNA to numerical simulation for the spherical and hexahedral-shaped prefabricated fragments.Numerical simulation model of results for spherical-shape prefabricated fragments compared with experimental results,it is closer to the experimental results,and shows that numerical simulation model has some credibility.Using the same numerical simulation model to the hexahedral-shaped prefabricated fragments,the results show that the penetration power meets the requirement,but the numerical simulation results are very different from spherical-shaped.
