Treating genitourinary infections with levofloxacin by continuous intravenous drip or sequential therapy:pharmacoeconomic analysis

2007
Objective To evaluate the pharmacoeconomic outcome of 2 therapeutic schemes of levofloxacin in treatment of genitourinary infections. Methods 83 patients with genitourinary infections were randomly divided into group A and group B.44 cases in group A were assigned to receive levofloxacin injection by continuous intravenous drip, another 39 cases in group B to receive levofloxacin injection/capsule by sequential therapy. The pharmacoeconomic analysis was performed on the 2 groups. Results No significant difference noted between 2 groups in effective rates, bacterial clearance rates, and incidences of ADRS(P0.05),but the treatment cost in group A was significantly higher than in group B(P0.05).Conclusion The sequential therapy with levofloxacin for genitourinary infections is preferable.
