The break-skeg for marine propulsion unit

Disclosed is a frangible skeg (190) for the lower portion (60) of a marine propulsion unit (20). The skeg is designed so that the attachment features break under certain load or certain actions, and thereby prevent damage to the lower portion (60) of the marine propulsion unit (20). The frangible skeg (190) is mounted over Abscherlaschen (310) comprising a relief (340) which constitutes at least a part of the volume of the base portion (330) of the Abscherlasche (310). The Abscherlaschen (310) are designed to fail under certain circumstances before other components of the ship's propulsion.
